Tower Bridge is probably the most famous bridge in the world and considered by many to be the most beautiful of London's bridges. Tower Bridge has become an iconic symbol of London. It is a combined bascule and suspension bridge in built between 1886 and 1894. The bridge crosses the River Thames close to the Tower of London. The architect was Sir Horace Jones and John Wolfe Barry the engineer. Construction started in 1886 and took eight years and the efforts of five major contractors and 432 relentless labourers to build the iconic bridge. Access to Tower Bridge is free.
