Family: Turdidae (Thrushes)

Habitat: Woodland and gardens and parks.

Size: Length 23.5-29 cm (9.25-11.4 in).

Food: Insects, earthworms, berries, and fruits.

Voice: Song: rich and melodious.

Season: All year round.

IUCN Conservation Status: Least Concern

Family: Laridae (Gulls)

Habitat: Farmland, lakes and reservoirs, marsh, beaches and shorelines, mudflats and sandflats, rock pools, sand dunes, sea stacks, estuaries and sea cliffs.

Size: Length 40-46 cm (16-18 in)

Food: Worms, insects, fish and carrion.

Voice: High-pitched laughing cry.

Season: All year round.

Narcissus cyclamineus

Family: Amaryllidaceae

Habitat: Woodlands, meadows, parks and gardens.

Flowering Period: Early March to late May.

Daffodils are native to meadows and woods in Europe, North Africa and West Asia. The number of defined species ranges from 26 to more than 60 depending on opinion.

Helen Garden was owned by Helen Hornby-Lewis who gave it to the Borough Council in 1933 for use as a public pleasure ground. There are wonderful views along the coast and out to sea.

Large areas are lawns and the council have planted beds of flowers.
